Porter Ranch, CA -- “For people who are
already here, I don’t understand what the
problem is about giving driver licenses as long as
they have no criminal record,” said
Congressional candidate Navraj Singh (California
27th District) speaking at the Shepherd of the
Hills Church in Porter Ranch where he and his wife
Pamela were warmly received by Pastor Salvador
Fuentes and the Latino congregation October 12.
Candidate Singh who is running for political office for the first time told the audience that he shared several things in common with them because he was a first-generation immigrant who came to the US, with just seven dollars in his pocket more than thirty years ago. Like most Latinos, he worked hard and was able to save and build nine restaurants, he said. “I have employed hundreds of Hispanic workers over the years and I know that this is a very hard-working community,” he said.
Singh said the immigration issue had taken a back seat in the current elections. “No one is talking about immigration any more. But this is a very urgent issue and will be addressed as a priority when I am in Congress,” said Singh who favors legalization for those who don’t have criminal records. He advocates the option of military service for undocumented workers who meet the needed criteria.
He also told the congregation that he stood for the protection of families and that he was pro-life.
